Hi Mrs. Ritu!
Firstly, let me point out that I am a male, so "sir" would be more appropriate here :P
Anyway, that's besides the point.
Okay so a score of about 220 shows that he has prepared well for the exam. It is a decent score, and with some more practice, he can do much better. What needs to be done to avoid silly mistakes is simple. Just practice solving question papers. Solve plenty of JEE sample papers along with the timing. What you as a mother can do is that give your son the question paper and note the time. Then, after three hours, collect the sheet where he has marked the answers, and then match the options from the answer key yourself. This will provide a proper feeling of an examination. Thus, as he does these papers repeatedly, any exam fear which might be there, will also surely disappear.
I would suggest that you purchase the Arihant sample paper book for JEE main, as it is a brilliant book with lots of sample papers with answer keys and explanations.
See, mistakes are bound to happen under pressure. So, if your son is confident that he knows the concepts well, let him practice more. Give him more mock tests with time constraints. As for the marks concerned in advanced, it depends on how well he is prepared and also on how confident he is while attempting the paper. So, my only suggestion would be focus on the concepts if they aren't in place else on focus on test taking by your son.

Silly mistakes ! I take them as the slip-ups which happen inspite of having conceptual knowledge. I can totally understand the part they play in deciding your score. Practice is the key for anything. It generally happens that we don't put the easy problems on paper while practicing, the hard ones we do and the same attitude carries on to the exam also + the feast in JEE, we'e options that are confusing. So the most important part is to solve, even the easier questions on paper till we arrive at the result completely, On the day of exam, Calculation mistakes and misinterpreting / overlooking the details of the questions may result in mistakes. Read the question thoroughly first, may be twice, you'll not fall short of time! Keep your rough work neat and mind at peace while doing calculations, shut the questions running in the background off. These can be achieved by giving regular mock tests or so.

JEE is a competitive examinations and errors are bound to occur. Also due to the very healthy competition a very severe penalty has to be paid as a result of silly errors. However need not be disheartened. A score of 220 is also not bad.
I would suggest the following:
1) TO get a rank under 500 is pretty tough a severe perseverance would be required.
2) Regular 6-8 hr sincere self study required apart from classes.Just keeping the book infront of you wont help. Cover a topic thoroghly. Superficial coverage of syllabus would not be useful.
3) Cover all the three subjects. To attain a decent rank marks must be good in all the three subjects.
4) Strenghthen your strong topics. They will help you score well.
5) Take help of your peers and freinds to solve your queries.C larify all your doubts.
6) As you are saying he committed a lot of silly errors please try and analyse why those errors occured.Lack of practice also results in errors.
7) Be truthful to yourself and dont hide your weakness. Proper practice will eliminate all your weaknessses.
