Hi, If it your first job, then a work experience of 5 to 6 months will not increase your chances of getting into the IIMs. However, if you decide not to take up the job, then you might face questions as to why you do not have a job. You can't say that you left so that you can prepare for CAT. So, it is suggested that you take up the job offer. As for preparation, studying theory from books alone won't do it for you since you need to know a variety of tricks to solve problems asked in CAT (since time is of paramount importance). So, you need to know the short approaches and apply them effectively. You need to practice a lot to lift your performance across all 3 sections - Maths, English, LR/DI. A few decent books could be the ones by Nishit Sinha. Also, you need to enrol for all-India mock tests.
